Discover Nancy

Nancy is situated in the east of France, in Lorraine region, and is at the crossroads of many places. In Nancy you will be at only 1h30 away from Paris (by train), Strasbourg, Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium. The major language spoken here is French with of course a delicious Lorraine accent.

Nancy counts over 47 000 students and is well-known for being a big student city ! Every year many students choose to study in Nancy because of its history, architecture, musical/cultural events, nightlife, restaurants, traditions and leisure activities (Nancy Tourisme). If you have the opportunity, we highly recommend you to attend the period of December as Saint Nicholas festivities are a huge event in Lorraine, and especially in Nancy.

Lorraine University regroups a lot of campuses inside the Lorraine region. In Nancy there are several campuses spread across the city, which vibrates to the beat of its students : our Faculty is one of them.

Our campus, which welcomes every year around 9000 students, is highly internationally oriented. Hosting international students is an essential point for our faculty as it’s very stimulating for education, research and it encourages the development of partnerships with universities all over the world.

We offer a wide variety of study programs in the fields of applied Art, Human and Social Sciences, such as bachelor and master degrees in three main domains:

  • Social sciences, that regroups communication, education sciences, geography, history, linguistics, philosophy, psychology, and sociology.
  • Applied arts, that regroups literature, languages and arts,
  • Plus, we have a language center that, among other languages, offers you the possibility to study and improve your French as a foreign student.

As a student on the campus, you will also have a wide access to all the facilities such as classrooms, amphitheaters, computers, university libraries and catering.

Student life is also a good reason to come over, especially on the campus where you can find services that are here to support you all year round such as sport facilities, student associations and a student house where many events are organized by and for students. Furthermore, our campus is well located : close to the heart of our beautiful city and at only 10 minutes by feet from the train station.

Academic year

The academic year in France is divided into 2 semesters : autumn semester (from mid-September to mid-January) and spring semester (from mid-January to mid-May). Both semesters consist of educational activities including lecture courses, practical activities and the evaluation of learning outcomes. Students who do not pass in the first exam session might enroll for the second exam session in June.
